In his nearly 30 year career in the business valuation profession, Mr. Van Horn has been involved in over 3,200 valuation engagements covering a broad range of industry segments.  Mr. Van Horn has appraised privately-held companies involved with manufacturing, construction, distribution, financial services, professional services, engineering, software development, start-up technologies, and many other industries.

Mr. Van Horn’s expertise includes helping structure initial ESOP transactions in addition to providing on-going appraisal services to ESOP clients.  Mr. Van Horn regularly consults with client Boards of Directors on matters impacting shareholder value.  His background also includes providing valuations for trust and estate planning (including family limited partnerships, limited liability companies, and charitable giving situations), structuring incentive stock plans for management, and providing related financial advisory services. David joined BAS as the Director of Litigation Services in June 2016.  Over the past 18 years, Mr. Rogers has specialized in providing business valuation and litigation support Services. He has experience in many facets of business valuation having participated in hundreds of engagements at various levels.  These engagements have included companies that have ranged from under $100,000 to billions of dollars in sales.  Mr. Rogers has experience in various types of damage calculations, lost earnings, and forensic accounting issues. Read more...

James Kveton

Valuation Services Manager, CVA

James joined the BAS team as a senior valuation analyst in July of 2013, and was promoted to Valuation Services Manager in 2014. James has significant experience in the valuation profession, including three and a half years as a valuation analyst with a large consulting firm located in the Chicago area during which time he performed tax related business valuations for firms ranging in size from $500,000 to $50 million in annual revenues.

Prior to joining BAS, James also worked as a valuation analyst with a public accounting firm, providing a combination of valuation services and litigation support services, including divorce related valuations. Read more...

Scott Pinto

Project Manager, CVA, MBA

Scott joined BAS as Project Manager in March 2013. Professionally, he possesses a strong analytical background and more than five years experience in the investment industry, where his focus was on providing thorough research and ensuring top-notch client service. 

Prior to joining BAS, Scott held a position as an investment analyst at Kinship Trust Company, a single-family investment office based in Chicago. There he performed investment manager research and ongoing due diligence for a specialized equity portfolio. His efforts led to several successful investments across various strategies and geographies. Additionally, Scott maintained relationships with outside investment managers and developed investment performance reports. Read more...

Arthur Taphanand

Senior Valuation Analyst, CVA

Arthur joined Business Appraisal Services, LLC as a Valuation Analyst in July 2012, and was promoted to Senior Valuation Analyst in 2015. Having recently graduated from Northern Illinois University in May 2012 with degrees in Finance and Economics, he is able to utilize his backgrounds in the financial field to strengthen the BAS team. At NIU, Arthur was an active member in the Association for Financial Professionals, the Financial Management Association (FMA), and the Society for Advancement of Management (SAM). On top of bearing a full course load each semester, he also acted as Assistant Manager at a local DeKalb restaurant, having been promoted within a few months of employment. Read more...

Andrew Lopez

 Andrew graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northern Illinois University in 2017 with a double major in accounting and finance. While in school, Andrew was an active student in the finance department, participating in the Student Managed Portfolio as a materials sector analyst. Andrew has completed the exams requited for the Certified Managerial designations. Andrew’s coursework at NIU ranged from investments, derivatives, and financial risk management to auditing, advanced financial reporting, and taxation.  Read more...

Gail Van Horn

Office Manager

Gail has worked at BAS as Office Manager since its inception. With her specialized financial training, she is responsible for report production, billings and collections, the accounting function, and other banking and administrative tasks.

Previously, Gail worked in Standard Oil’s Tax Department as well as the accounting firm Touche Ross, the predecessor to Deloitte. 

Gail graduated from Wheaton College with a  B.A. degree in Economics.  She studied tax and accounting further at St. Xavier University. Read more...
